Gallipoli is a famous resort of Salento, located along the West coast in province of Lecce, in the south of Apulia. It overlooks the Ionian sea and is divided into parts: the village and the historical centre. The first one, is the recent area of the town, built on a peninsula, rich in new buildings such as the glass palace (called skyscraper too). The historical centre on the contrary, is situated on an island, linked to the mainland by a XVII 's century bridge. Not very far from the old town there is Sant'Andrea island, an important historical place.
